A new thriller about the early days of the North Sea oil boom will kick off the ONS Norway festival later this month – ahead of its official premiere.
Pioneer, by Prozac Nation and Insomnia director Erk Skjoldbjærg, focuses on the divers that helped install the oil pipelines bringing oil ashore when the Norwegian boom began.
Deep sea diver Peter (Aksel Hennie) is obsessed with the idea of being the first on the bottom until an accident kills one of his friends, leading him to investigate a conspiracy involving the oil companies and government.
“We are very excited to see the film at ONS Norway, the home of the oil and gas industry,” ONS Norway director Leif Johan Sevland told Aftenbladet.
“Pioneer divers were essential for the oil adventure became a reality, and many of them got ruined health. The security of the base is a theme that is as relevant today.”
The film will be screened for atendees at the ONS Norway 2013 event in Stavanger on August 19, ahead of its international premier at the Toronto Film Festival next month.
