Oil and gas companies in search of new staff must look outside the industry pool in response to the increasing skills shortage, a leading energy firm has warned.
Neil Sims, area manager with Expro, told Energy Voice drawing new blood into the industry was important – and that would involve looking beyond the obvious recruitment paths.
“If you were to look at the vast majority of senior people in the oil and gas industry, you’d be quite surprised by the varied nature of their background,” he said.
“I like the idea that I can actually think outside the oil and gas industry and I encourage others to do that too because it’s not all about technical.”
The company is this year celebrating its 40 anniversary on the market, having conducted the first well testing in the English Wytch Farm project, Dorset, in 1973.
“This is a really big year for us in terms of significant upturn in activity and the investment that we put in, training and people, which is quite good to be in our 40th year,” said Sims.
