Shell has announced the appointment of John Abbott as the company’s downstream director.
Abbott, currently the company’s executive vice president for manufacturing., will take over the new role on October 1.
He originally joined Shell in 1981, and has held a variety of management positions at the company in refining, chemicals and upstream heavy oil, including spells in the UK, Canada, USA, the Netherlands and Singapore.
In the new role Abbott will join Shell’s executive committee, taking over from Ben van Beuren who will take over as the company’s chief executive officer at the start of next year.
