Visual artists can provide new perspectives on the energy industry, believes the artist behind the Piper Alpha memorial.
Sue Jane Taylor, who is exhibiting her Beatrice Works show at the Aberdeen Maritime Museum, told Energy Voice she believes there is a definite place for art in the industry.
“Film and photography are the media which are used by the [energy] companies, which are really valuable to their recordings – but perhaps what’s overlooked is the fine artist who can bring something quite different to a project such as this, because an artist has much more time to reflect,” Taylor said
The touring exhibition, which runs until January 4, combines paintings, etchings, drawings and diaries from Taylor’s experience of the world’s first offshore turbines being installed in the Moray Firth.
“It’s a different outlook because my way of looking at this project is very different from the photographers’ way – it’s much more personal.”
