The father of one of Scotland’s most successful businessmen has died after an industrial accident at a north-east factory.
Alfie Cheyne, 72, was crushed by a lorry at Ace Winches’ premises near Turriff in Aberdeenshire.
Mr Cheyne’s son, also Alfie, is boss of Ace Winches and was named chief executive of the year at the Scottish Business Awards in June. Mr Cheyne jun founded the company in 1993.
Mr Cheyne sen was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary after the accident around 5pm on Wednesday but died in hospital.
Police and the Health and Safety Executive are investigating the accident.
It is understood Mr Cheyne had been driving an articulated low loader and had stopped the vehicle and climbed out of the cab. The lorry then rolled forward, pinning him against a wall.
