The Christmas sing-along is, for many, a yearly – if somewhat dreaded – office tradition.
But the Statoil team in Bergen has elevated the custom to another level, by substituting classic carols with contemporary chart hits.
This year the Norwegian oil firm’s staff will be rocking to their original take on Ylvis’ cult hit What Does The Fox Say?
“Our main message is that we want to strengthen our corporate culture and the importance of having a smile on the job,” Statoil manager Jens Grimsgaard told Aftenbladet.
In the team’s latest video: What does the boss say? , Grimsgaard plays the title character, amazed by the arrogance of his lazy employee.
Singer Grimsgaard, has provided vocals for seven of the last eight festive music videos from the firm, going back to his days at Norske Hydro before it merged with Statoil.
“I heard the song Hallelujah by Gitarkameratene on the radio, and that’s when the idea was born to what we call Halve (half-Christmas).
“I thought for sure this would be a fun thing for the Christmas table.”
Grimsgaard said the videos take on average two weekends to make and are a highly anticipated common feature at the Bergen Christmas table.
