Mechanical engineering group Enermech has opened a base in Mexico as part of a £2.4million investment in Latin America.
Enermech has established a 28,000sq ft office, warehouse and yard storage in Villahermosa and it expects to have up to 20 staff in the country by the end of the year.
Jason Reynaud, who has joined the firm to head its Latin American operation, said: “Operators and service companies have been receptive to our setting up and how seriously we are going about our business.
“They are less keen on companies that just come in and poke around.
“They like that we are investing in infrastructure and creating a permanent presence and not hanging around hoping to snare a few contracts.”
He said the firm made an “encouraging start” securing a number of offshore process, pipeline and umbilical (PPU) contracts for major clients.
“It is a developing market with a vast amount of untapped resources and when offshore production really kicks off we will be well placed to offer our integrated services,” he said.
Meanwhile, hydraulic fluid manufacturer Niche Products has established an operation in Brazil.
The firm, which has its North Sea distribution facility in Portlethen, said Niche Produtos do Brasil will produce subsea control fluids as well as 24 hour technical support to customers.
