Power jet cleaning business Sureclean has been snapped up by an American industrial services group for an undisclosed amount.
New York-based National Response Corporation (NRC) said the fast-growing northern company – which has operations in Alness and Aberdeen – was a “strategic fit” for the firm which specialises in oil-spill response and other services.
The deal will see Sureclean’s owners pocket the significant proceeds of the deal.
Managing director John Barron, operations director Ian Pirie and projects director Alan Stewart each own a 33% stake in the firm, which was founded in 1998 and has over 140 staff.
In January the company said it enjoyed record-breaking turnover in 2013, which was up by 40% to £22million.
Steve Candito, chief executive of NRC, said: “NRC has experienced significant growth in its international business in recent years and the addition of Sureclean to the group further strengthens and broadens our service offerings.
“We believe the combination of NRC’s global footprint and Sureclean’s quality personnel, cutting-edge technology and proven track record makes for a strong strategic fit.”
John Barron, managing director of Sureclean, said: “We are excited about moving forward as part of the NRC group. Sureclean has developed a great reputation as a provider of superior, solution-driven services through the hard work and dedication of our staff, and we believe the global strength and financial resources of NRC will allow us to continue with our international expansion and add new services while ensuring the continuation of high-quality services to our customers wherever we operate.
“It is very much business as usual at Sureclean; continuing to trade independently with the same management team and structure.”
NRC is backed by US private equity firm JF Lehman & Company which focuses on acquiring firms in the defence, aerospace and maritime sectors.
Alex Harman, a partner with JF Lehman, said: “Since the acquisition in 2012, NRC has demonstrated strong growth and we are delighted to be able to announce the addition of Sureclean to the group, bringing with it expansion into new geographies and a range of new, complementary service capabilities.”
