An Aberdeen firm which specialises in back deck reels has successfully tested a new carousel for laying umbilicals offshore Indonesia.
Aquatic Engineering & Construction, which is owned by subsea conglomerate Acteon, developed the modular carousel, the AQCS-01-1500, in Singapore through its subsidiary Aquatic Asia Pacific.
The giant device was used by installation contractor, Kreuz Subsea, to instal umbilicals six miles long from the back of the Seamec Princess Vessel in the South Belut field, which is being developed by ConocoPhillips.
Nick Dale, regional manager for Aquatic Asia Pacific, said: “The new Aquatic carousel is now proven at sea and is earning its reputation as a game-changer in the offshore subsea industry.”
Kurush Contractor, chief executive of Kreuz Subsea, said: “Working with Aquatic towards the successful completion of the project was a mutually supportive and efficient experience.
“The performance of the new carousel has exceeded our expectations and operations have been completed ahead of schedule.
“We are already considering how we can work with Aquatic and its 1500te carousel on future operations.”
