Engineering group Costain has landed a major deal to provide front end design and management work for the National Grid’s plans to upgrade infrastructure.
The deal will see the firm land a share in more than £500million of work over the next four years, as the energy transmission network undergoes improvements.
Costain will provide FEED work on the gas transmission system, including upgrading compressors at Huntingdon and Peterborough, along with replacing overhead lines and civil work on underground cables.
The deal, part of a £26billion upgrade of the energy infrastructure planned over the next seven years, comes after Costain’s partnership with the Grid on London’s new power tunnels network.
“These awards are at the very heart of our ‘Engineering Tomorrow’ strategy of focusing on blue chip customers whose major spending plans are underpinned by strategic national needs,” said Costain chief executive Andrew Wylie.
