The chief financial officer and managing director of Cairn Energy will join the Wood Group board of directors at the end of her term in the role, after 16 years with the Edinburgh-based company.
Jann Brown will stand down from Cairn at the next AGM on May 15, when she will take on the role of a non-executive director at Wood Group and will chair the board’s audit
committee and join the nomination committee.
Brown, recently featured in our Women in Energy series, will leave Cairn together with the firm’s deputy chief executive Dr Mike Watts. Both agreed to continue in their roles until the AGM as they seek to resolve Cairn tax issues in India.
The company has faced claims by the country’s government of an outstanding income tax bill worth around £250million for its 2006-2007 operations.
The dispute has seen Cairn prevented from selling shares in its Indian subsidiary, worth an estimated £600million, while the row is ongoing.
John Smith, former energy and power director at Rothschild, will take over the role of finance director and joint the Cairn board as an executive director upon Brown’s and Watts’ departure.
The transfers also coincide with more staff reshuffle at Wood Group, following the recent appointment of SSE’s former chief executive Ian Marchant as the company’s new chairman.
David Woodward will succeed retiring Allister Langlands as senior independent non-executive director at the company’s AGM on May 14.
“I congratulate David on his appointment,” Marchant said.
“David has been a source of wise counsel as a non-executive director since 2007 and as chair of the remuneration committee since 2012 and is ideally suited to serve as our as senior independent non-executive director.”
“I am delighted to welcome Jann to the board,” Marchant added on Brown’s appointment.
“Her extensive experience of the international oil and gas industry and her finance expertise will further strengthen the board and the audit committee, which she will chair following her appointment.”
