Mohit Batra has been appointed managing director of Survival Craft Inspectorate’s (SCI) Asia and Australasia operations.
The master mariner, who holds a MBA from Oxford University, has spent 12 years at sea and 10 years onshore in senior positions with top-tier multinationals.
Mohit will manage the company’s Malaysia and Western Australia operations.
He said: “We plan to grow our market share, strengthen the local team and increase our presence in this region. I am excited at the prospects and opportunities this region has and confident that SCI can meet the growing demands and expectations of the industry.”
Steve Wells, chief executive officer at SCI, said: “In Mohit we have the right person to develop the business in the region and achieve our growth ambitions. We’re delighted he has joined Survival Craft Inspectorate.”
SCI specialises in the manufacturing, inspection, testing and servicing of lifeboats, fast rescue craft, release mechanisms, winches and davits.
It has offices in the UK, Canada, Norway, Qatar and three offices in the United States in Florida, Houston and Louisiana.
The company has 180 staff and plans to recruit an additional 20 people by the end of the year.
