Power firm National Grid has won a responsible business of the year award in recognition of its efforts to tackle social and environmental issues.
Business in the Community made the award, praising the company’s commitment to sustainable energy, lowering greenhouse gas emissions and promoting education programmes.
“We invest time and energy working with young people, making sure they understand the amazing world of engineering and energy,” said Steve Holliday, National Grid chief executive.
“We are responsible for inspiring the next generation of talent to make sure they are in place to keep the lights on and gas flowing for our society, long into the future.”
Other award winners have reduced staff turnover, cut sickness rates, boosted workers’ skills and become more energy efficient.
