Offshore drilling contractor Transocean has called for an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) as it looks to establish a new chairman.
The current head of Transocean’s board, Ian Strachan, is expected to retire at the age of 72 when his term ends at the 2015 AGM.
The company is looking to elect to the board chief executive of oilfield services firm NOW, Merrill Miller, Jr., with a view to recommend him as chairman at the end of next year’s AGM.
Prior to NOW, Miller served as president and chief executive of National Oilwell Varco and as chairman of the board.
He is also a director of Chesapeake Energy Corporation and served as president of Anadarko Drilling Company.
“The board believes Mr. Miller’s extensive industry and senior management experience will be of significant value to the company,” Transocean said in a statement.
