VIPs from across the region joined EnQuest on Friday as the North Sea oil and gas firm celebrated the topping out of its new Aberdeen headquarters.
The new building, located at the former derelict Aberdeen Seafood Park on Palmerston Road, will cover approximately 120,000 square feet over eight storeys.
It will carry the name of Annan House, following the theme of a number of the company’s fields which are named after Scottish rivers and locations such as Don, Deveron and Cairngorm.
Annan House will allow to consolidate around 500 of its workforce, currently placed in two Aberdeen locations, under one roof.
The work on the building, which today celebrated the last concrete pour on its highest point, is being carried out by Sir Robert McAlpine (SRM), previously involved in the construction of the London Olympic Stadium andthe Glasgow M74 Motorway.
“The completion of the structural works is an exciting development in the creation of our new flagship building which further reinforces EnQuest’s long-term commitment to Aberdeen as our centre of excellence,” said Neil McCulloch, president of North Sea at EnQuest.
“Our current offices next to the site are a great vantage point and it’s been fascinating to watch such an impressive building emerge so quickly from what was a derelict site just over eight months ago.
“We have had extremely positive feedback from people who recognise the importance of our investment and how it will help breathe new life into the area.”
Among those who attended the topping out event were Aberdeen Lord Provost George Adam and Ian Jessiman, board secretary at Aberdeen Harbour.
The next stage of work involves the building envelope, which includes all the elements of the outer shell that make the building water-tight, followed by internal fit-out, with a view to prepared the building for occupation in the second quarter of next year.
