Plans for a new archive in Wick relating to Britain’s nuclear industry took its first steps.
Highland Council’s north planning applications committee noted early proposals for the museum, which could be built near Wick Airport.
The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) have produced outline plans to house information and records for the Dounreay power plant in Caithness at the centre, as well as documents from sites across the country.
It would be built on brownfield land previously used by the RAF for accommodation blocks close to the airport.
Peter Carus, a land agent working for the NDA said: “The archive is to be a repository of information and records of the history, development, management and decommissioning of the UK’s civil nuclear industry.
“The development will be an exemplar facility within government and the information management sector and will develop links with other NDA initiatives and relevant organisations.”
The building will house a include a public reception area, catalogue and reading rooms.
More detailed information will be available at a public exhibition on Tuesday, November 25 in Wick.
This will be held at the Pulteney Centre in Wick between 2pm and 6pm.
