Petrolia is now drilling at the Haldimand 4 site in Gaspe, Quebec.
The well site is located near Sandy Beach, where the firm has recently opened an office and hired a local representative to oversee dialogue and answer community questions.
Alexandre Gagnon, chief executive, said: “I am extremely pleased that drilling at the Haldimand 4 well is under way.
“Once we have demonstrated the commercial viability of the project, it could provide a great boost to the economy of the Gaspé area.”
Pétrolia has implemented several measures to minimise social and environmental risks for the Haldimand 4 well. These including an aquifer observation well, a watertight membrane under the drill site and a sound barrier.
