
Oil major Chevron has successfully completed one of the largest offshore platform installations in the company’s history.
The Wheatstone topside marked a major milestone for the project which is almost 60% complete.
It will be Australia’s first naturl gas hub.
The platform is now in place, 225 kilometres from Ashburton North.
Mike Watkins, platform manager, Wheatstone project said: “You’re dealing with one of the biggest platforms in the world.
“The engineering that goes into this has taken a couple of years at least to get all of these plans together. There’s a lot of work in this type of operation.”
Earlier this year, Shell produced a video which showed how it would remove the Brent Delta topside would be removed from the North Sea.
