The UK managing director of Aker Solutions’ subsea business has been promoted and will be taking on a new, global role in the firm.
Matt Corbin, who has been UK managing director for Aker Subsea for almost four years, will take on the job in the New Year, which will be based in London.
The remit of his old job will be widened to cover both UK and Africa. A spokesman for Aker said the role will be filled through an internal appointment and will also be based in London.
The move is thought to be part of a wider restructuring plan after the Norwegian subsea services firm confirmed in October that it was in consultation with staff to cut 70 jobs in Aberdeen.
Meanwhile, Aker Solutions’ first chief engineer was presented with the Society for Underwater Technology (SUT) President’s Award in recognition of his long term services to industry
Dr Kjell Olav Stinessen, 73, drew a sketch on the back of a napkin in 1985 that became the offshore industry’s first full-scale subsea compression station.
Marine services company James Fisher & Sons has confirmed the appointment of Stuart Porteous to the business development team of its subsea excavation business.
Barrow-in-Furness based James Fisher acquired the subsea dredging assets of X-Subsea UK from administrators in a £14.8million deal in May.
Mr Porteous, a former project manager at X-Subsea, will be targeting new opportunities for Aberdeen-based James Fisher Subsea Excavation in the UK, Europe and West Africa.
The company also welcomed the appointment of business development manager Jorge Anez, also formlery an X-Subsea manager based in Houston, and business development executive Steve Kaub, also in Houston.
Kenneth Mackie, managing director of James Fisher Subsea Excavation, said: “Jorge has an in-depth knowledge of this industry and the region. His appointment is a significant step in our continued expansion of the company into an area that promises vast potential.
“Steve and Stuart’s appointments are important as we continue to develop the marketplaces worldwide for our world-leading suite of tools.”
