A Mexican drug lord interviewed by Hollywood actor Sean Penn for a magazine article has claimed he would turn his hand to the energy sector.
Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman was interviewed by the actor in the Mexican Jungle at a secret location.
The 58-year-old, who had been on the run since a jail break, spoke to Rolling Stone magazine in an interview which was brokered by actress Kate del Castillo.
Penn wrote in the article how El Chapo suggested to the actors they should “consider switiching” their career paths “to the oil business”.
He then went on to say he would “aspire to the energy sector, but that his funds, being illicit, restrict his investment opportunities.”
The article continues: “He cites (but asks me not to name in print) a host of corrupt major corporations, both within Mexico and abroad. He notes with delighted disdain several through which
his money has been laundered, and who take their own cynical slice of the narco pie.”
The article, which was revealed earlier this month, is understood to have helped Mexican officials locate El Chapo.
He has now been returned to the maximum-security Altiplano jail, which he had escaped from using a tunnel dug to the shower in his cell last year.
