Independent explorer Enegi has discovered oil bearing sands at one of its wells in the Central North Sea. The company said the find was contained in a simple four way dip structure at the 22/12a-12 appraisal well at its Phoenix discovery.

A major contract has been awarded to Philippines fabricator Atlantic Gulf and Pacific Company (AG&P) to build process modules for one of the world's largest LNG projects in Russia. Gas explorer Arrow Energy has been given approval by the Austrailian government for its environmental impact assessment. The company’s proposal for the central Queensland pipeline, which is expected to be about 500km long, will take coal seam gas (CSG) from Moranbah in the Bowen Basin to Gladstone.
Oil giant Shell has produced its first oil from the Gumusut-Kakap floating platform off the coast of Malaysia. It is the latest in a series of Shell deep-water contracts and the platform is expected to reach an annual production of around 135,000 barrels per day (bpd) once fully ramped up.

Oil workers had to be evacuated from a platform in the North Sea after a cargo vessel carrying radioactive waste began drifting towards it. US-based Stone Energy has secured a rig for a multi-year deep water drilling program in the Gulf of Mexico. The primary contract term for the ENSCO 8503 drilling rig will be for 30 months and is expected to commence during the second quarter of 2015.

Dubai-based explorer Dragon Oil has proposed a £492 million cash offer to Petroceltic International to add exploration and output in North Africa and Kurdistan. The Board of Petroceltic said it was in discussions with the company, who have proposed a £2.30 offer per share.

The numbers of Shrimps in the waters off the Gulf of Mexico was found to have increased after the 2010 BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill, according to new research. Scientists at George Mason University in Virginia found the numbers of brown and white shrimp actually rose following the disaster.
