Energy Voice has launched its latest sector research campaign aimed at uncovering industry opportunities in a low oil price environment.
Dubbed Sub-$50 Oil: New Perspectives and Hidden Opportunities, the latest research survey delves into the sector’s current downcycle, examines its knock-on effects and identifies the critical gains still available regardless of Brent benchmarks.
Energy Voice editor Rita Brown said: “We’ve heard operators and service firms alike discuss preparing for ‘even lower, for even longer’ business.
“The headlines over the past year have had a common thread, regardless of operating area which has been very much about cut backs and cost reductions. There’s been a lot of noise around the pain the industry has felt, and those are some very real and very hard truths.
“But this research is about creating a platform for an equally important subject – opportunity. It looks to identify and examine the incremental inches the sector can still make in a downturn. $30 oil has certainly shifted industry perspective, but it has also forced it to identify those essential gains.
“When something as critical as oil price is out with your control, it makes the industry push every lever it possibly can – including things like diversification, technology and behaviours.
“Sub-$50 will examine those and also provide an editorial platform for the Energy Voice team to tell the stories of the men, women and companies, who continue to do incredibly good work in such a relentless environment.
“But we need our readers’ help. We need them to take part in the research and help inform these new perspectives.
“The survey should take five minutes to complete.
“The theme echos similar calls made by Sir Ian Wood, OGA chief executive Andy Samuel and BP’s former North Sea president Trevor Garlick.”
The research findings will be revealed at this year’s Offshore Technology Conference in Houston.
Energy Voice, which is shortlisted for the Scottish Press Award’s Innovation of the Year, has had more than 2,000 people take part in its research campaigns in the past year
The platform’s sold-out, Energy 2050 – Securing Our Future, event included industry veteran Sir Ian Wood and Statoil graduate geologist Rebecca Wain as part of its panellist discussion on the next generation of sector talent.
Sub-$50 Oil – New Perspectives and Hidden Opportunities is sponsored by the Greater Beaumont Chamber of Commerce in Texas and multi-discipline law firm Burness Paull in the UK.
