The Johan Sverdrup field is one of the five biggest on the Norwegian Continental Shelf with expected resources of up to three billion barrels of oil equivalent.
It is expected to be one of the most important industrial projects in Norway over the next 50 years.
Earlier, Statoil revealed costs for the first phase of its development have now decreased and the break-even price is now $25.
