North-east energy service businesses declared the arrival in Aberdeen of the UK’s foremost lifting industry event a triumph.
LiftEx 2016 was staged on Wednesday and Thursday at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre.
Organisers from the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA) expected to welcome more than 1,500 visitors and 100 trade exhibitors, which would be a record for the two-day showpiece.
A number of Aberdeen firms, including First Integrated Solutions and Trac Oil and Gas, were among the exhibitors and attendees.
Paul Crichton, international business development manager at First Integrated, which was an exhibitor, said: “It seems like there has been a higher volume of people attending this year. Yesterday it was so full that we did not have a chance to leave our stand. So many people were coming to talk to us, and that’s what you want.
“We even had a couple of inquiries from people coming to our stand so there’s potential for doing business further down the line.
“There were a lot of potential partners, and international ones as well. We spoke to people from Brazil, Angola and Australia – people seeking to bring knowhow from the north-east of Scotland to their region. We made some contacts which we’ll follow up on. Part of our strategy has been to internationalise and have a global footprint.”
Jan Stander, business delivery manager at Trac Oil and Gas, said: “It was good to see all the options that are available from a lifting perspective. It’s quite a big industry and it’s interesting that new products are still coming out, even when market conditions are pretty tough. Companies obviously realise that if they don’t keep innovating they’ll get left behind.”
