Industry body Subsea UK has unveiled the finalists who are in the running to triumph at its 2017 business awards.
Some of the UK’s most innovative and successful subsea businesses are on the roster, with the winners due to be announced at an awards dinner at Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC) on February 2.
The gongs will coincide with Subsea Expo, Europe’s largest subsea-focused exhibition and conference.
Among the finalists for awards recognising the people and companies leading the way in the UK’s £9billion subsea sector are Hydro Group, JDR Cable Systems and N-Sea, who are all in the running to win the coveted company of the year award.
JDR Cable Systems, JFD Global and Ocean Installer are shortlisted for the global exports award, while Canyon Offshore, JDR Cable Systems and The Underwater Centre are vying for honours in the innovation for safety category.
The shortlist for the innovation and technology award features Interventek, JDR and Proserv.
Chay Telfer of Caley Ocean Systems, Faraz Ahmed of GE Oil and Gas and Aiden O’Sullivan from Universal Pegasus are all hoping to win the young emerging talent award, while the small company of the year title will be contested by EC-OG, Flex-Tech and Infinity Oilfield Services.
An award for most outstanding contribution to the subsea sector will also be announced on the night.
Subsea UK chief executive Neil Gordon said: “Despite the continued downturn, these finalists have demonstrated that the UK subsea sector has what it takes to rise to the challenge – identifying ways to improve productivity and deliver much-needed efficiencies.
“They have all demonstrated how they are supporting the industry as it adapts to a new environment which can deliver lasting results in the years to come.”
The ceremony will be hosted by former rugby star Matt Dawson, who toured with the British and Irish Lions three times and was part of England’s 2003 Rugby World Cup-winning side.
Subsea Expo, running at AECC from February 1-3, is expected to attract more than 5,000 delegates and around 150 exhibitors.
