This week’s World Heavy Oil Congress in Aberdeen is the latest in a biennial series.
Launched in the Chinese capital Beijing, in 2006, the events have increasingly become a major platform for international oil companies, governments, the service sector and industry experts to investigate the challenges and opportunities related to unlocking heavy oil around the globe.
In previous years the congress has been held in China, Canada and Venezuela.
The 2012 programme includes premium-level receptions and a closely connected exhibition, presentations and panel discussions; all providing business insight for heavy oil, with sessions devoted both to business and technology.
Today’s schedule starts with an Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce business breakfast.
Delegates will hear from a panel of experts on opportunities and challenges that heavy oil presents.
The main speakers at the event are Jose Luis Mogollon, of Halliburton, and Statoil’s Johan Andreas Johansen.
