Since it was first held in 2004, the annual exhibition and conference has grown to become one of the leading events in the international subsea calendar. From an initial 40 exhibitors and 200 visitors, 2013 saw the biggest event to date, hosting 140 exhibitors and almost 4,000 delegates.
To reflect its importance within the sector – and to coincide with Subsea UK’s tenth anniversary – the event, which is expected to attract up to 5,000 visitors and 150 exhibitors next year, has been rebranded as Subsea Expo.
The event, which will once again be held at the Aberdeen Exhibition & Conference Centre, also boasts a new format, running over three days as opposed to two as in previous years.
A one-day conference opens the event and will play host to a number of leading figures sharing their views on the industry, its future, and its challenges. Meanwhile a brand new technology showcase will provide a forum for companies to present on new technology and innovations particularly in the areas of subsea fields of the future, subsea integrity management and offshore renewables.
Subsea Expo will close with a session focussed around the group’s Subsea Target initiative, launched earlier this year with the aim of addressing the skills gap in the sector. Through Subsea UK’s “Grow Your Own Talent” initiative, subsea businesses keen to bolster their recruitment capability can develop the toolkit necessary for building maintaining a strong workforce which will ensure our industry remains a world-leader.
“Getting into Subsea” draws together service-leavers, graduates, school children and anyone else with an interest in pursuing a career in this dynamic industry. A study last year indicated a shortfall of 10,000 workers, with the Subsea Target initiative targeting job seekers and employers to stem that gap.
Through a partnership with the skills, training, and standards organisation OPITO, Subsea Expo will also see a one day Energise Your Future event. The initiative brings together companies within the industry to showcase the breadth of careers on offer and the various entry routes available. Aimed specifically at schoolchildren, the interactive activities enable pupils to relate what they are learning in school to the world of work.
A talented and enthusiastic workforce remains one of the sector’s key assets and Energising Your Future gives pupils the chance to see the range of opportunities within the industry, thereby making a lasting impression on their future career choices and ensuring the industry remains buoyant into the decades ahead.
Now worth almost £9 billion and employing around 60,000 people, the UK sector continues to lead the way around the world thanks to its experience, expertise, technology and skills.
