Emerson Process Management confirmed it has successfully completed the first deployment of its Roxar Downhole Wireless PT Sensor System.
The deployment was carried out in Statoil’s Skuld field in the Norwegian North Sea.
The sensor is able to measure real-time pressure and temperature behind the casing in subsea wells.
Following the successful completion, the US-based firm now looks to roll the technology out to the wider UK sector. The announcement was made during this year’s OTC.
The subsea technology is aimed at preventing uncontrolled gas escaping to the surface. If increased pressure behind the well casing is left undetected it can result in a devastating gas blow out.
Terje Baustad, product manager for Emerson Process Management, said: “Operators such as Statoil will now have the information they need to make informed decisions on the integrity of the well casing, thereby improving control over their production operations.”
