Craig Shanaghey, President, Operations Services, Europe & Africa at Wood, has been announced as the chair of a new task group set up to champion diversity and inclusion in the oil and gas industry.
The Diversity and Inclusion Task Group set up by OGUK will bring industry together to drive action towards recruiting and retaining diverse people, representative of wider society, and ensuring no one feels excluded in their place of work.
The D&I Task Group will convene regularly with an aim to:
- Reinforce the business case for greater Diversity & Inclusion in the industry
- Seek to establish a benchmark for Diversity & Inclusion– establishing what ‘good’ looks like – and provide support for businesses that are seeking to do more
- Shape and drive efforts to improve the image of the sector as an excellent career destination; one that embraces a culture of Diversity & Inclusion.
The Task Group will include representatives from OGUK membership and will be launched at a Diversity and Inclusion lunch at Offshore Europe today jointly supported by OGUK, OGTC and the Axis Network.
Commenting on his appointment, Craig Shanaghey said: “It’s a privilege to take on the role of Chair of the new Diversity & Inclusion Task Group at such an important time for our sector. As we embrace the challenges and opportunities that will come through the energy transition, harnessing the collective insight, experience and future aspirations of everyone within our industry has never been more important.”
OGUK Chief Executive Deirdre Michie said: “I’m delighted that Craig has agreed to serve as the inaugural chair of our industry’s first Diversity & Inclusion Task Group. With his considerable experience and passion for driving improvements in the industry, Craig will help lead the action we need to achieve the ambitions set out in Roadmap 2035.
“Our industry supports around 270,000 skilled jobs, but with women representing only one in four of the talent pool, there is clearly still more work to be done. It’s not just about gender alone and involves diversity of race and ethnicity, as well as skills and thought. We look forward to announcing more about the work of the Task Group in the coming weeks and months.”
