Andrew Derry, Principal of the British International School of Houston, unveiled their new $80 million state-of-the-art campus to OTC on Monday, 2 May, 2016.
The new facility more than doubles the school’s capacity from 850 students at the current campus to more than 2,000 and will also generate over 100 new jobs for high quality teachers and administrative support staff. Serving students ages 3 to 18, the school uses modern pedagogical and brain research to offer a truly world-class approach for learners and their learning.
Andrew Derry, who is responsible for running the new campus, told delegates, “What we are offering students is a truly personalised approach to learning, built around best practice. The British International School of Houston is a very successful school with very high standards and examination results at all levels. We will uphold and continually improve these since they provide the vital pathway to further educational opportunities for our students. At the same time, we will prepare our students with the contemporary skills, attributes and concepts that prepare them for their fast-changing, globally connected, technology-rich future.
Our learning environments are completely designed around the diverse needs of our learners. Our ‘neighbourhood’ concept provides a range of environments, each particularly suited to a style of learning; from individual areas, to fully collaborative, technology-rich areas. There is always a learning environment suited to the approach our students need.
Located in Katy in West Houston, the campus opens in September 2016, and partners its students with the best of the best, such as the world-renowned Julliard School of Performing Arts.
The new site is developed to cater to the increasing demand for exceptional standards of education from both expatriate and local families.
The school will continue to deliver its international curricula for students, providing a passport to the finest universities and colleges in the US, UK and around the world.
Students’ outstanding academic success achieved through the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme places the British International School of Houston in the top 5% of the more than 3,000 IB schools across the world.
Nord Anglia is a family of 42 premium schools across the world offering IB programmes to students and Mr. Derry stressed that there is much more to the schools than straightforward passing of exams.
“We feel it is important that we also instil a sense of community spirit in all of our students,” he explained. “That is why students cannot graduate from any of our schools without completing some sort of community involvement programme.”
“And we will continue to be building on our community involvement in our new location.”
