The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has appointed Chris Flint as director of its energy division.
The department oversees the upstream offshore and onshore oil and gas industry, onshore gas and pipeline infrastructure as well as offshore renewables and mines for England, Scotland and Wales.
Flint has been interim director since April 2016 following the retirement of his predecessor.
He has been with HSE for over 26 years and has a strong regulatory track record, ensuring the safety body continues to provide effective regulation across the major hazards energy sectors.
He said: “I look forward to continuing to work with the various sectors regulated by HSE’s Energy Division and building on the already productive relationships HSE has established with relevant sectors.
“I continue to recognise the importance of the oil and gas sector to the UK and look forward to working with industry and stakeholders to maintain safe operations.”
