The shipment of US shale to Grangemouth was made using the world’s largest ethane gas carriers ever built.
Each Dragon ship weighs 20,000 tonnes and mark a world first as ethane has never been shipped in these quantities before.
Ineos will move 40,000 barrels of shale gas every day for the next 15 years.
A shipment is expected weekly to the site at Grangemouth and during the course of the contract, each vessel is expected to make the equivalent of five return journeys from the earth to the moon.
The ethane come from the Marcellus Shale in Western Pennsylvania which is 300 miles from the nearest port.
Ineos has invested $2billion since the project was devised in order to deliver the project.
