All this week Energy Voice is taking a look back at the events of November 6th in which 45 men lost their lives after a Chinook helicopter crashed on its return to Sumburgh Airport from the Brent Delta platform.
Families and workers will be able to remember their loved ones and colleagues 30 years on from the Chinook helicopter disaster at a service tomorrow.
The commemoration will be led by chaplain to the Oil and Gas Industry, Reverend Gordon Craig.
He said it may be 30 years on from incident in which 45 men were killed but that for the family and friends there would “still be days” when the “feeling of loss” would be felt.
Reverend Craig said: “I think it is not just 30 years ago but it is a chance for those who may have lost someone in the industry within the last year, who can come together and grieve.
“I think there are two sides to it. In one sense there is the fact we remember those we love and it hopefully gives comfort to the families who lost people offshore.
“The fact that we can do it 30 years on shows that industry will remember their loss.
“People can come together and meet with others who have been through a similar situation and find solace in one another.
“Our service is an opportunity to come together to remember and reflect on those taken in that tragic event, as well as all of the men and women who have passed away unexpectedly while working
offshore.”
The service will take place tomorrow at St Nicholas Kirk in Aberdeen from 11am. All those wishing to attend are welcome to come along.
