As Leader of Aberdeen City Council I felt it was important to try and take a lead on how politicians interact with the Oil and Gas Industry.
Aberdeen is a global city that has achieved so much success thanks to the Oil and Gas industry being on our doorstep.
It concern us all that the price of oil has dropped so heavily in such a short space of time and whilst we accept there will always be fluctuations in the price of oil I believe the time is now right for the industry and governments at all levels to work together to maintain confidence in the North Sea.
We are the energy capital of Europe and, in order to sustain our position and compete against other global cities, we must have a strategy that meets the needs of the oil and gas industry in Aberdeen.
The summit is an opportunity for us all to work collaboratively with both the UK and Scottish Governments;Oil and Gas UKĀ and other industry leaders; Unite the Union and other unions with an interest in this matter and Aberdeenshire Council.
Aberdeen City Council is currently working towards submitting a city region deal to the UK Government in consultation with the Scottish Government.
The oil industry continues to tell me that what is needed in Aberdeen is significant investment in infrastructure in order to sustain and support future economic growth within the city and the North East.
It is clear that we need to work together if we are to ensure that the supply chain remains anchored in the North East and I look forward to working proactively with all interested parties.
By doing this we should ensure that Aberdeen retains its position as the energy capital of Europe for many decades to come.
