Do you know what gives me hope for this industry’s future?
200 metre margins and rejection letters.
This past week I may have inhaled more diet coke than I should ever admit, talked to more people than I can remember and typed more words than I can tally, but I really do mean 200 metre margins and rejection letters.
For me, the real news of Offshore Europe isn’t in the contract wins and turnover figures.
Yes, Energy Voice will continue to happily report those and champion businesses doing good business.
But, for me, the real news is in the conversations.
So if I just consider those three conversations – a small snapshot of the mammoth week that is Offshore Europe – there’s more than enough to reinforce my confidence in the sector’s ability to be resilient.
It reminds me that we’re only ever 200 metres away from our next big win.
It reassures me that some of those eager innovators of the future, currently grappling with rejection letters and closed doors, will one day find themselves delivering the keynote speech at the industry’s biggest conference.
And if all else fails we still know there’s a very real, very proven 3 billion barrel prize right at our doorstop.
I’ll raise my diet coke to that.
