India’s biggest gas importer Petronet has said it aims to spend up to $3billion in the next five years to expand overseas.
The move would include setting up terminals in Bangladesh and Srik Lanka among other countries.
The company’s managing director Prahbat Singh said it was “thinking global” and not looking “inwardly only at India” when it comes to future plans.
Petronet has previously only focused on importing liquefied natural gas (LNG) for regasification at its plants at Dehej in Western Gujarat state and at Kochi in the southern state of Kerala.
Last month Petronet also submitted a proposal for a 1-mtpa floating LNG terminal in Sri Lanka, which wants a gas link for its 600-megawatt power plant, Singh said.
