Marathon Petroleum reported an 84.7% drop in its quarterly profit, which it said was partly hurt by lower refining margins.
The company said its net income attributable to the firm fell to $145million.
This was in comparison to $948million a year ago.
Marathon Petroleum was also hit with an impairment charge of $267million after the firm and its partner Enbridge scrapped the Sandpiper Pipeline Project.
