ExxonMobil said quarterly profit fell by $1.59billion due to the drop in declining crude prices.
The loss was also impacted by refining margins.
The US oil and gas firm said its net income was $2.65billion compared with $4.24billion a year previously.
Production fell about 3% to 3.8million barrels of oil equivalent per day.
Earlier today Total revealed its production in the third quarter had risen by 4% including from the start-up of Laggan Tormore.
