The head of data management and analytics at Aker Solutions has revealed that working with Google helped to improve the company’s data handling systems.
Fergus McCann said that various technology firms had been approached to help improve their system.
He said: “We spoke to Amazon, IBM and Google to see what they could offer us for mixed data.
“What they (Google) gave us was really innovative search and data capability.
“It turns your search in seconds.”
Mr McCann also spoke about the benefits which their Quantified Visual Integrity (QVI) system offers clients, including the ability to track performance and visualise data more effectively.
But he encouraged the industry to be more open to embracing new technology and reap the rewards that it can bring.
He said: “As an industry we are not really that good at bringing in those technologies.
“In essence, what we are looking at is improving decision making and embracing new technology.”
And he added that his company was still learning more about the potential of data visualisation programmes and further developments in data software.
He said: “The more we work on this, the more collaboration and things we find we can bring in and integrate. Things we hadn’t thought of.”
Mr McCann was speaking at the Oil and Gas UK conference in Aberdeen today.
