BG Group said today the potential of its Brazilian Santos basin discovery had been underlined by a strong well test and results of its latest well.
It said an extended well test on the Carioca discovery, in the BM-S-9 block in the basin, had indicated a potential production of about 28,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd).
In addition, it said the potential of the area had been “underlined” by good quality oil being found in wireline samples from its 4-BRSA-973A-SPS well, known as Abare, south of the Carioca discovery well.
Further tests are due on this well.
BG, 30% owner in the BM-S-9 block, and its partners, operator Petrobas (45% owner) and Repsol Sinopec (25%) have now drilled five wells in the Carioca area and said further appraisal work was to be carried out.
It said Brazil’s National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels had extended a deadline for a declaration of commerciality from November 2011 to December 31, 2013.
