OIL and gas commissioning and technology specialist qedi said today it had reached another milestone in its rapid global growth by entering Canada.
The Aberdeen-based firm has now opened a regional office in Calgary.
The move follows growing demand for its services and to support parent company AMEC, an international engineering and project management company. Qedi also aims to target the region’s oil sands sector and mining markets.
The firm’s network of oil and gas hubs around the globe including Aberdeen, Azerbaijan, Dubai, Kazakhstan, Houston and Australasia, where it plans further expansion.
Martyn Canham, who is to head up qedi’s Calgary office as general director, said: “Qedi has already experienced significant interest from operators and major contractors in Canada about the Go Completions application of our Go Technology hub of specialist project management software.
“In Canada, there is also growing interest from operators of oil sands projects. They are actively seeking a holistic approach to the management of data throughout the project lifecycle and this is exactly what the Go Technology suite has specifically been designed to manage.
“Go Completions provides the data hub which captures all the pertinent project data and information required to verify the integrity of the plant and equipment prior to start up.
“Qedi has successfully applied this technology in other international oil and gas hot spots and, most recently, it was launched in Alberta for the oil sands and mining industries.”
Mr Canham said qedi anticipated doubling the size of its Canadian business within a year.
Over the next six months, the company aims to recruit at least 20 certification engineers for its Calgary office, with this number expected to double within 12 months.
Mr Canham previously managed qedi’s Kazakhstan operation, which has a 350-strong workforce.
