Scottish utility SSE said yesterday it had won approval for low-carbon electricity projects worth £64million.
They included a £30million scheme in the Thames Valley and a £34million project, the Northern Isles New Energy Solutions (Nines) initiative, in Shetland.
SSE said Nines would address some of the most pressing energy challenges Shetland faced by allowing small-scale renewable generation to play a more significant role in meeting the isles’ energy needs.
