Danish shipping and oil group Maersk said today sales rose 9% in its third quarter on higher oil prices and container volumes.
But pre-tax profits slumped 34% in the three months to the end of September because of lower freight rates, higher bunker costs and a lower share of oil production.
Third quarter sales were £9.5billion, up from £8.7billion in the same period last year. Pre-tax profits were £1.1billion, down from £1.6billion in the same quarter of 2010.
