Subsea 7 said today it wanted to add to its north-east workforce after predicting improved performance from its North Sea operations in 2012 and beyond.
The seabed-to-surface specialist oilfield engineering group already employs more than 1,500 people at its Westhill base near Aberdeen, but said it was recruiting after winning a string of contracts in the region.
Subsea 7, which also has around 150 people in Wick, reported a jump in turnover in the third quarter of the year.
Turnover was £894million in the three months to September 30, up from £309million in a comparable period last year.
Pre-tax profits were £151million in the latest quarter, up from £55.6million.
Subsea 7 said it that had enjoyed good vessel utilisation in the North Sea during the most recent period and it expected margins to improve year-on-year.
The company is recruiting for 50 positions at its Westhill offices.
Steph McNeill, Subsea 7’s vice president for the UK, said: “Our UK and the North Sea business continues to be a key contributor to the overall Subsea 7 performance.
“We are well placed to take our share of future work and, as a result, offer our people in Aberdeen and Wick opportunities for personal and professional development.”
The company said turnover from the North Sea, Mediterranean and Canada was £397.7million in the latest quarter, up from £103.6million last year.
It said the results could have been even better but were hampered by delays to some North Sea work.
Slower-than-expected progress was made on some contracts because of operational problems and poor weather conditions, the firm added.
