Aberdeen engineering services firm Aiken Group said yesterday that its annual turnover was up by 4% to £13.33million despite some of the harshest trading conditions of its 26-year history.
It added that the growth was achieved against a backdrop of difficult operating conditions, most notably last year’s helicopter problems which prevented staff from getting offshore and led to jobs being postponed by clients.
But the company, wholly owned by directors Danny Donald and Norman Mackay, said the business was built to withstand changes in its main markets.
He added: “The success of Aiken Group lies in the sum of its parts – a mix of multi-discipline services.
“The knock-on effect of last year’s helicopter problems was massive in terms of the reduction of available flights.
“Offshore project and maintenance services were suspended by some operators and this affected our door maintenance and accommodation upgrade and new-build divisions. The business is structured to be able to withstand fluctuating markets.”
