Production has started at Petrobas’ P-55 platform at the Roncador field in the Campos Basin, Brazil.
The platform is part of the company’s Module 3 project at the field. It will be connected to 17 wells, of which 11 are for oil and gas production and six are for water injection.
Oil and gas from the field will be transported from the platform to an offloading system via submarine pipelines.
The semi-submersible unit is the biggest ever built in Brazil and one of the biggest of its kind in the world.
Weighting in at 52,000 tonnes, the unit is installed at a water depth of 1,800 metres and has the capacity to process 180,000 barrels of oil per day.
Construction of the platform was part of the Brazilian Federation Government’s growth acceleration plan, supporting 5,000 direct and 15,000 indirect jobs.
The new unit will operate alongside the existing Roncador field platforms – P-52 and P-54 – and the P-62 platform which is currently being moved to its location on the field.
