Centrica today confirmed it would cut 3,000 jobs in 2016.
800 jobs have already been shifted in the first three months of the year, according to the firm.
Centrica revealed the topline figure in its trading update ahead of its annual meeting today.
The job losses are part of the firm’s £750million per annum cost efficiency programme. To date, the firm has reduced its net debt to £4.4billion, “benefiting from strong working capital management and seasonal phasing of cash flows”.
Chief executive Iain Conn added: “We continue to make good progress in implementing our strategy, and with improving levels of customer service, good operational performance, lower costs, and the launch of new products to help customers manage their energy usage, we remain on track to deliver against our 2016 targets.”
Centrica’s annual meeting will be held at 11am today.
