The Aberdeen-based oil and gas Industry Technology Facilitator (ITF) has boosted its membership with the arrival of French firm Dassault Systemes.
Dassault Systemes believes involvement with ITF, coupled with its knowledge of working in a range of sectors, will help the oil industry tackle its efficiency problems.
The company, which employs more than 14,000 people, supplies 3D design software and product management services to 12 industrial sectors, including aerospace and automotive.
Bosses at Dassault Systemes said the firm’s digital platform could speed up research and development projects, which ties in with ITF’s work.
ITF is owned by major global operators and service companies and brings forward collaborative funding for joint industry projects.
The organisation has played a part in the launch of more than 200 projects from early-stage concepts through to field trials and commercialisation since it was set up in 1999.
ITF chief executive Patrick O’Brien said the new addition’s multi-industry approach had a lot to offer.
Mr O’Brien said: “Crossing technologies over from other industries is a proven way to get solutions to market in a cost-effective and efficient way as can be seen from the success of drone technology from the military sector and robotics from medical and aerospace.
“In the current climate, the industry is ever more focused on technologies with rapid deployment potential that can reduce costs and ITF is actively seeking to diversify our membership to add more expertise from sectors with cross over potential.”
