An Aberdeen-based well engineering and construction manpower and services company said yesterday it had sealed the deal on new contracts worth a “conservative £20millon”.
REC Consultancy, launched by business partners Dave Mackay and Richard Clarke in 2008, said the work was with clients including Anglo-Australian multinational mining, metals and petroleum giant BHP Billiton (BHPB) and Falklands-focused oil explorer Rockhopper Exploration.
The five year global services contract with BHPB will see REC supplying well construction experts to support exploration and production drilling projects in core operations in the US Gulf of Mexico, Australia and Trinidad & Tobago.
BHPB has been a key client of REC since the company’s foundation, and the new international agreement will see this relationship continue until at least 2021.
Alternative Investment Market-listed Rockhopper is a new customer for REC, which will provide advice on operating in the Falklands – a part of the world the firm has had experience of since 2010.
REC, employing about 20 people from headquarters in Queen’s Road Aberdeen, is also working with other new clients, both in the UK and internationally, following the recent contract wins.
Mr Mackay said: “This level of new business is a major achievement for REC in such a challenging industry environment.
“We are delighted to be continuing to work with such major clients as BHP Billiton as a global services partner, as well as working with new client Rockhopper in the Falklands, which is a new oil province we know extremely well.”
He added: “We hope these contracts will sustain the business over the next five years and give us a platform for growth.”
The firm’s two partners are experienced operator drilling managers who have spent more than 30 years in the industry, working around the world i regions including the North Sea, the Far East, Middle East, Africa, the Gulf of Mexico, Australia, the Falklands and the Caribbean.
Their company provides management, engineering and supervisory staff for offshore drilling, completions and subsea activities. It also serves supply chain and health, safety and environment operations.
