Eni Norge restarted production on the Goliat field in the Barents Sea today, just over a month after shutting it down due to a gas leak.
All non-essential staff members were evacuated from the Goliat floating production, storage and offloading vessel on August 26 when gas was detected in an “unwanted area” during a maintenance operation, Eni Norge said.
Norway’s offshore safety body then ordered the firm to submit a report on the incident.
Eni said it had investigated internally and put improvement measures in place.
The company said it expects to reach full production soon.
The field is in the Barents Sea, 80kilometres north-west of Hammerfest.
Eni Norge holds the operatorship and 65% of the field, while Statoil has 35%.
